Beginning Sounds Roll and Cover Alphabet Games - NO PREP Letter Sounds Games

These roll and cover the beginning sound alphabet games are a fun, interactive way for students to develop phonics skills any time of year! They will get lots of practice with letter recognition and letter sounds. It is perfect for pre-k and kindergarten.

Better yet, there is no prep required for you! Just print and play! This is a simple way to add more fun to your literacy centers or small group lessons.

While using this roll and cover beginning sounds alphabet activity, students will learn to isolate beginning letter sounds and match the letter sounds to letters.

There are 20 different themes and 4 different alphabet game mats for each theme. Plus, black and white versions of all games. There is a mat for each of the following:

Mat 1: Letters t, a, s, p, i, n

Mat 2: Letters c, d, e, h, r, m

Mat 3: Letters b, k, o, l, g, f

Mat 4: Letters q,u or y, j, z, w, v

* The letter x is excluded since ending sounds are used to teach that sound.

To use this alphabet activity, students will follow these steps:

1. Roll the dice.

2. Look at the letter next to that number.

3. Find one beginning sound picture on the mat that corresponds to that letter and cover it.

4. Keep rolling, identifying letters, and covering beginning sound pictures until all of them have been covered.

Play with a Partner!

Students can also play with a partner. They will take turns rolling the dice and covering a spot on the mat while using different manipulatives to cover their spaces. Once the mat is full, count up the spaces you covered. Who covered more spaces? That person wins the game!

It can also be used as a collaborative game where students take turns and work together to cover all the spots on the mat.
